CHAPTER 40
Author edit cases and five-minute finals
See how NovelFlow preserves real revisions and turns stable text into author examples.
On this page
The manuscript editor records real author edits quietly. It does not interrupt each edit with a confirmation dialog or block typing while a database write completes. Open Author Style Studio → Finished Examples or Story Library → Author Cases to compare the original passage, the active revision, retained intermediate versions, and the latest final.
The five-minute final rule
- The original version is always retained.
- A revision becomes final after five minutes with no further edit.
- If you edit a finalized passage again, the old final remains until the new text stays unchanged for five minutes. The old final then becomes an intermediate version.
- Saved cases and revisions still waiting to settle remain available after reopening the project.
What these cases are for
Author cases help you review how your draft became the final passage and provide grounded examples for preference learning. A single revision does not automatically become a global writing rule. Keep factual corrections, character ownership, and timeline changes in the relevant setting, character, or outline records.
If a case does not settle, first confirm that the project saves normally, then keep the app open for more than five minutes. Do not duplicate manuscript content or edit the database manually to force settlement.
