CHAPTER 15

Character Profiles and Knowledge Boundaries

Track character facts, relationships, and who knows what.

A useful character profile records identity and aliases, appearance, background, goals, motives, voice and habits, abilities and costs, relationships, first appearance, current state, and textual evidence. Use only images you have the right to import; an image does not replace written canon.

The knowledge boundary separates what the character knows, what only the author knows, what readers know, and what remains unrevealed. Check it before continuation to reduce accidental secret knowledge or premature payoff.

Relationships need direction, type, phase, and evidence. Attach changes to concrete chapters rather than storing only a timeless label such as “friend” or “enemy.”
